{"id":1798,"date":"2016-09-02T14:31:48","date_gmt":"2016-09-02T14:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tvndy.ca\/?p=1798\/"},"modified":"2018-11-06T01:38:58","modified_gmt":"2018-11-06T01:38:58","slug":"webcast-archive-projectvalue-the-euthanasia-deception","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tvndy.ca\/en\/2016\/09\/webcast-archive-projectvalue-the-euthanasia-deception\/","title":{"rendered":"Webcast archive: #ProjectValue\/The Euthanasia Deception"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1180\" height=\"664\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MnLeePC1al4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In this episode of <em>Euthanasia &amp; Disability<\/em>, Amy Hasbrouck and Christian Debray discuss:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cProject Value\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe Euthanasia Deception\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note that this text is only a script and that our webcast contains additional commentary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#PROJECTVALUE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Project Value is a Facebook page that features videos made by people with disabilities to challenge the popular idea of what it means to be disabled.<\/li>\n<li>The page\u2019s sponsors state:\u00a0 \u201cAs we enter complex discussion in Canada about doctor-assisted suicide, we worry that Canadians are only getting one side of the disability story \u2013 that death is a natural choice for these \u2018poor suffering disabled people.\u2019 But this story doesn\u2019t speak to the experiences of many with disabilities.<\/li>\n<li>According to organizers, the project seeks to explore a different perspective; to share stories and experiences that contradict the narrative that disability is a fate worse than death.\u00a0 This is about projecting the value of disabled people.<\/li>\n<li>The project aims to reach out to young people and recently disabled people to show that \u201cIt\u2019s OK to be disabled.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Project Value posted its first video on July 25, and has since posted 16 videos by disabled people.<\/li>\n<li>Each video begins with a description of the person\u2019s diagnosis, prognosis, and a description of their functional limitations. \u00a0Then the person talks about the quality and value of their life beyond their medical status.<\/li>\n<li>People who have posted videos include Catherine Frazee, Ing Wong Ward, Tracy Odell, Etta Ginsberg McEwan, Norm Kunc and Tim Rose.<\/li>\n<li>Up to now, none of the videos are in French.<\/li>\n<li>Project Value is looking for more disabled people to contribute videos.\u00a0 Go to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/projectmyvalue\">www.facebook.com\/projectmyvalue<\/a>\u00a0to view the videos, or for information about making your own.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cTHE EUTHANASIA DECEPTION\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Euthanasia Deception is a one-hour documentary featuring powerful testimonies from Belgium and beyond \u2013 of those devastated by the false ideology of \u2018mercy killing\u2019,<\/li>\n<li>According to the documentary\u2019s producers, the film aims to expose three main deceptions of doctor-assisted dying:\n<ul>\n<li>First, that euthanasia and assisted suicide are forms of compassion.<\/li>\n<li>Second is the myth of autonomy &#8211; that decisions made between doctor and patient operate in a vacuum.<\/li>\n<li>And finally, that government \u2018safeguards\u2019 can truly protect the vulnerable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Testimonies include:\n<ul>\n<li>Prof. Tom Mortier, whose depressed mother was euthanized without his knowledge;<\/li>\n<li>Hendrick, whose grandfather\u2019s death was \u2018hastened\u2019 without request \u2013 years before his time;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cJames\u201d, who regrets family pressure to euthanize his mother;<\/li>\n<li>Lionel, who is routinely asked by Belgian strangers why he will not euthanize his severely disabled daughter;<\/li>\n<li>Mark, an MS survivor, grateful there was no law allowing him to kill himself when he was diagnosed; and<\/li>\n<li>Kristina, a nurse who shares her remorseful experience with assisted death.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>With expert analysis from both medical and legal professions, the film reveals the serious, long-term implications of assisted dying laws, and proves that all of us become vulnerable when end-of-life care is handed over to lawmakers.<\/li>\n<li>The release of The Euthanasia Deception marks the launch of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/caringnotkilling.com\/\">CaringNotKilling.com<\/a>\u00a0a new, global resistance movement which utilizes the power of film and social media to combat misinformation being presented by mainstream media.
