{"id":1793,"date":"2016-08-26T14:27:36","date_gmt":"2016-08-26T14:27:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tvndy.ca\/?p=1793\/"},"modified":"2018-11-06T01:40:57","modified_gmt":"2018-11-06T01:40:57","slug":"webcast-archive-canadian-association-for-suicide-prevention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tvndy.ca\/en\/2016\/08\/webcast-archive-canadian-association-for-suicide-prevention\/","title":{"rendered":"Webcast archive: Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1180\" height=\"664\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZrEZiUAwR9s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In this episode of <em>Euthanasia &amp; Disability<\/em>, Amy Hasbrouck and Christian Debray discuss:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CASP declares that &#8220;medical aid in dying&#8221; is not suicide<\/li>\n<li>The Global TV network will present a mini series entitled \u201cMary Kills People\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note that this text is only a script and that our webcast contains additional commentary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CASP SAYS MEDICAL AID IN DYING IS NOT SUICIDE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention has put a controversial statement on its website regarding \u201cphysician assisted death.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The statement reads in part: \u201c\u00a0CASP would like to remind everyone that we are not speaking about suicide when we talk about physician assisted death.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>CASP justifies this statement with a document and infographic from the Centre for Suicide Prevention, affiliated with the Canadian Mental Health Association.\u00a0 The materials from the Centre for Suicide Prevention reflect the same inaccuracies and ignorance about assisted suicide as are circulated in the media at large.<\/li>\n<li>For example, the infographic states that while \u201csuicidal people do not actually want to die, they want the pain of living to end\u201d people who want assisted suicide \u201cwant to hasten death\u201d and \u201cwant the suffering in dying to end.\u201d \u00a0This does not take into account that many people who ask for assisted suicide are not dying and are not in physical pain.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s worrying that mental health and suicide prevention organizations are spreading this kind of false information about this important topic.<\/li>\n<li>Toujours Vivant-Not Dead Yet has written to the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention to ask it to remove the quoted comment from its website.\u00a0 We will continue our outreach to the Centre for Suicide Prevention to try to improve their understanding of suicide and disabled people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>GLOBAL TV NETWORK PLANS MINI SERIES ENTITLED \u201cMARY KILLS PEOPLE\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Global television has acquired the rights to a six-part dramatic series entitled \u201cMary Kills People\u201d that is now in production<\/li>\n<li>According to a July press release, \u201cThe series follows Dr. Mary Harris, a single mother and emergency doctor by day, who also moonlights as an underground angel of death \u2014 helping terminally ill patients who want to die and slip away on their own terms.
